January 2004 : Kauai
Leaving Maui I arrived on my final island of Kauai after a brief stopover in Honolulu. Collected my next hire car, a Pontiac Grand Am and headed off to my hotel, again with no problems.

Joined a helicopter flight over the island. We flew over many of the places where Jurassic Park was filmed, Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Coast. Very beautiful scenery.

Spent some time exploring a few local places. A beach made of glass where the glass pieces have been eroded so it looks like small pebbles. A swinging bridge, and a blowhole were also on the agenda.

Had an early morning to join a boat cruise. We were supposed to be going past the Na Pali coast, but due to bad weather we ended up going the other way along the coast. Some some whales which was amazing, as they were breeching, flapping their fins and also flapping their tails. We for a short SCUBA dive. The surge was pretty intense, so the other people that were wanting to go diving too changed their minds. The instructor reluctantly took me down on his own, but I want to keep practicing when I can.

Drove up to see Waimea canyon from the ground instead of the air. Stopped off on my way back to the hotel to try some "Shave Ice". What a delicious invention. I had strawberry, mango and guava syrup on mine and it was to die for. I'm not a big ice cream or ice lolly eater, but I definitely recommend trying some "Shave Ice" if you ever get the chance!

And so my time in Kauai was over. From here it was back to Oahu for one night before leaving the Hawaiian Islands and heading to Los Angeles.
